About the Journal

Founded in 1945, the Journal de la Société des Océanistes (JSO) is the only francophone peer-reviewed journal dedicated to Oceanian societies and cultures. Pluri-disciplinary since its creation, the journal publishes in the fields of human and social sciences (anthropology, archaeology, history, history of sciences, linguistics, museum studies, political sciences), environmental sciences and literature. Contributions reflect Oceania’s cultural, historical and political diversity, as well as the central role played by this region in the elaboration of key concepts in human and social sciences and of creative responses to contemporary global challenges.

The Journal de la Société des Océanistes offers different sections in its print and online versions, allowing for a variety of writing and publication formats. The journal’s identity and editorial policy are characterised by an openness to dialogue and to a multiplicity of voices.

Le Journal de la Société des Océanistes will be of interest to researchers and students working in Oceania, and more generally to all readers wishing to learn about this part of the world.

Le Journal de la Société des Océanistes publishes two issues per year (or one double issue) with the support of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and of the Centre National du Livre (CNL).
